Getting Paid: Stripe or Square
Connect one payment provider so online and in-person payments settle straight to your facility's own bank account.
WagDay takes payments through your own Stripe or Square account. Money settles directly to your facility — WagDay never holds your booking revenue. Only Admins can open Settings → Payments or change the connection.
One provider per facility
Your facility uses a single payment provider for everything — online checkout and in-person payments alike. Two rules follow from that:
- You can't switch providers once one is connected. To change, you disconnect the current provider first (see below).
- Pick the provider that matches how you already trade — if your front counter runs Square, connect Square so online and counter payments land in one place.
Connecting Stripe
- Go to Settings → Payments and select Set up payments (or Continue onboarding if you've started before).
- Complete Stripe's hosted onboarding — business details, your ABN, and the bank account payouts go to.
- You'll land back on the Payments settings page, which shows Connected — accepting payments once Stripe enables charges.
If an onboarding link expires before you finish, don't start over: returning through the expired link makes WagDay mint a fresh one and drop you straight back into onboarding.
While onboarding is incomplete, the page lists Stripe's outstanding requirements in plain English — things like Government ID number, Photo ID document, Business tax ID (ABN), Bank account for payouts or accepting Stripe's terms of service — so you know exactly what's holding activation up.
Once Stripe is live
The settings page also reports three read-only states:
- GST reporting — when your Stripe account has an Australian GST tax registration, the 10% GST is recorded as an inclusive component of hosted checkout payments via Stripe Tax. If it shows off, add the registration in your Stripe Dashboard under Tax → Registrations. See GST and tax settings.
- BECS Direct Debit — shows Enabled when you can take AU bank-debit payments, or being set up while Stripe activates the capability (it may ask for extra details in your Stripe Dashboard).
- Payouts — your payout cadence (for example Manual (you trigger payouts) or Weekly (7-day rolling)). The schedule itself is owned by your Stripe account — change it under Manage payout schedule & account details in your Stripe Dashboard.
Disconnecting Stripe
Disconnect Stripe frees the facility to pick a provider again. Two things to know:
- Disconnect is blocked while you have live recurring payment plans on Stripe — cancel those plans first.
- After disconnecting, the old account is retained in a refund-only capacity, so refunds on payments you captured before the switch still work.
Connecting Square
- Go to Settings → Payments and select Connect on the Square card.
- Authorise WagDay on Square's sign-in page (standard OAuth — you log in with Square, not with us).
- Back on the settings page you'll see Connected — accepting payments on your Square account, or finishing setup while your Square location resolves.
Square connection states to recognise:
- Needs re-connect — the authorisation has expired or WagDay needs new permissions. Re-run the Connect flow to keep taking payments without interruption.
- Disconnected — the connection was revoked; reconnect to resume Square payments.
- Couldn't load your Square connection status — refresh the page; your connection may still be active, and WagDay won't offer a fresh connection until it knows otherwise.
- Couldn't fully disconnect — payments are off, but the link at Square's end didn't come down cleanly. Use Retry Disconnect and finish removing it before reconnecting.
Square Terminal (in-person payments)
Once Square is connected, the In-person payments (Square Terminal) section lets you pick which paired terminal POS charges are sent to: choose Find Square Terminals, then select the device. Pairing the physical terminal itself happens on the device or in your Square Dashboard.
Disconnecting Square
Square disconnect is refused while you still have Square payments inside their refund window — refund them or wait for them to settle first. This keeps refund-eligible money reachable; once the window is clear, disconnect normally.
